Sitting at the foot of the Sierra Almijara mountains Salares is a tranquil and picturesque village located in the Axarquia region of Andalucia. The centre of the village is traffic-free. Salares has a long history that probably dates from the Phonecian times. The village has a Roman bridge and the local church is a famous for being built in the 16th century Mudejar style whist maintaining the 13/14th century minaret. The church was built on the site of a mosque dating from Moorish times, the building was delared a National Historic Monument in 1979.
From Salares Málaga international airport can be reached in just over an hour and the coast is approximately a 25 minute drive.
